Bridges

Bridges

Bridges are usually used to replace one or multiple missing teeth. They span all across the space where the teeth are missing. They are fixed with natural teeth or implants close to the empty space so that they stay in place.

Through the help of bridges, a patient can restore his or her ability to speak and chew. Apart from helping in maintaining the shape of the face, bridges also ensure that the remaining teeth do not drift out of their positions.

Here at Rye Dental, we offer three different kinds of bridges to our valuable patients:

  1. Traditional Bridges:

These are usually made up of ceramics or porcelain fused to metal. While using such bridges, a crown is also manufactured for the tooth/implant on either side of the missing tooth.

  1. Maryland bridges:

These are usually made up of plastic that is supported by a metal framework. These are used when adjacent teeth lie on only one side of the missing tooth. Metal wings on each side of the bridge are bonded to the existing teeth. This holds them in place.

  1. Cantilever Bridges :

These are usually made up of ceramics or porcelain fused to metal. While using such bridges, a crown is also manufactured for the tooth/implant on one  side of the missing tooth.

The process to fix bridges into a patient’s mouth is similar to the one mentioned above for crown fittings.
